Default QTP header install problem?

I have installed just about every different brand of header over the years and I have never had a set not want to go in. Passenger side went in smooth but the driver side does not even come close. I have searched but no one really said what they had to do. If I have to grind my block or cut my car up to get a header in they are going back where they came from. I didnt spend $700 on a pair of headers that will not fit in my car. I have my car raised up to the moon right now, took my oil filter off and the headers still will not even go even close to where it should be. Any help will be awesome. Thanks!

Mine did the same thing and I had to do what you already did plus unbolt the K-member to make them go in. A friend of mine has them with the HVM collectors and they go in just fine. Its seems like they fit right in on some cars and others require grinding, pushing on the firewall for clearance, and notching of the k-member. If you can get the driver's side header straight up and down you should be able to get it in. Good luck and your car looked badass at LSX this year!!

Try getting them as straight as possible. You wanna go in 90 degrees from the floor. Don't go in at an angle. If you can't hold them perfectly straight they'll seem like they don't wanna go in.

ya i had all the plugs out and the back pipe on the header seems to catch on the firewall/ floor pan so i just took a port-a-power and the jaws and got the 1/2" that was catching out of my way and fit right in.

Well did the strait up trick....slip right in wow! These headers were not designed to be installed on the ground thats for sure. I have never EVER had my car that high using a jack before. I used two 5 inch blocks stacked on top of each other to get my jack to go that high.

To get the drivers side headers in, you have to point the (4 holes side) directly north and south, you have to get amazing clearance if you're working with a jack, sorry to say it but you did it the hard way... (So did I, it took me ******* forever to get the drivers side in and i felt like a dumbass when i just jacked it up higher and slipped it in)

Edit, Saw chaco taco already fixed this issue... haha my bad

Damn, I should have jacked mine up higher I guess. The Y-pipe is still a joke on QTP's tho. I saw the pics of the Fab9 congrats! Wanting to see some nine second passes???

Most people raise the car higher than they need to.
The best way to fit the DS header is to point the merge collector end of the header towards the front of the vehicle, as you lift the header up into place you pivot/rotate the merge end down while lifting the header up into the open space. The header will pivot right up into place.

I had to do the same thing to get my jack high enough for the headers to slip in. I built a little platform for the jack to sit on. I think I has a stack of 3 though.

Yea. I think QTP's and Kooks are actually the same primary design, or extremely close. The only difference is in the collectors. They're both based on the old Grott design, which was one of the first (and still one of the best of not the best) equal-length designs out there.

Yea, they're really not meant for jackstands. Even on a lift you have to be conscious on the angle you're putting them in. You really have to go straight up and in. It's amazing because you think it's totally impossible, then once you get the angle right they slip in perfectly without touching a thing. It's really funny how deceiving the looks are. That's why mine were done on a lift I've heard too many stories like this with Kooks and QTP headers on jackstands.

There is a way to do headers without even jacking the car.
