Alternator Hey I have a 98 Z28. I swapped out my alternator a few weeks back with a brand new one. While I was replacing it I forgot to undo the regulator plug on the top of it. The alternator hung a lot of weight on it for a couple minutes. Now about a week ago I started getting a check gages light and my volts would go up and down. Yesterday my car died. I had the alternator retested and it is fine. I've checked all my wire connections and can't see any problem. Could the regulator plug wire be damaged internally and if so were do I get a replacement? Thanks for any help.
the chance of breaking the wire is less likely than the chance of a bad alternator. What type of alternator did you use? The up and down in voltage could easily be caused by a faulty regulator.
