Which Thermostat, Hypertech or SLP and 160 or 180?

Which Thermostat, Hypertech or SLP and 160 or 180? Well latly it seems like my cars over heating but on my gauge it shows no higher then 210-215? The coolant sounds like its boiling inside and starts to overflow.
So does it matter if I go with Hypertech or SLP?
and 160 or 180?

and i just bought a Stant radiator cap part number 10234
and it looks different then my stock one but i am sure it will work just as good?

Re: Which Thermostat, Hypertech or SLP and 160 or 180? 99 and up have pretty crappy gauges. I would run a diagnosis on the car and get the actual temp reading before going by the guage. Make sure you reset your fans to match the thermo or else the thermo is useless if the fans are not cooling the fluid soon enough.

Re: Which Thermostat, Hypertech or SLP and 160 or 180? Yea i have the hypertech 160 stat and my car runs anywhere from 170-180, i used predator to get tha temps but u will need to set your fans to come on earlier

Re: Which Thermostat, Hypertech or SLP and 160 or 180? I installed an SLP 160 thermo and programmed the fans to come on with a hypertech programmer, but the temp is still reading 210. I was thinking of having the system checked to make sure that both fans are working... Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

The gauge in these cars is like a dummy light And the newer f bodies come with a 180 but everyone thinks it's like a 195. I checked my coolant temp on my 02 and it was 177, but gauge reads 210. The gauge only moves if there is a radical temp change. Your 2001 has a 180 in it now, don't waste your money buying another 180. If you go to your Chevy dealer and ask for a thermo they will hand you a 180.

I got a 160 and have the fans turn on full blast at 165 and even in Houston dead of summer my Autometer temp gauge hovers between 173-180...blasting down the freeway I see 165-170 temps easily all the time
