another question...EGR...what does it do? can I remove it?
Well finally I did my AIR mod, have had the EGR mod done for some time now. Just for asthetics alone these mods are awesome. Knowing how much the EGR sticks down into the intake tract it is a big blockage. The AIR system is if you have cats (I do not) and the EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation. The EGR sends exhaust gas back into the intake to aide in combustion. During part throttle you may experience some pinging and poorer fuel mileage(to make up fuel from EGR). However under WOT you will not have the blockage and no difference in performance from EGR since it never works under WOT any way. I still have the EGR codes however I have not had any knew codes from the AIR system.
With that said, 01+ do not have an EGR system, mostly due to a different cam profile. I believe it has to do with valve overlap, etc.. They also run less timing.
My EGR went away after I did my LS6 intake since there were no privisions for it. I already had my Hotcam installed, among other mods. I am running the stock timing at part throttle, and I do not get any pinging. The cam, of course, is very different than stock, so this problably helps...
As far as performance gains for removing it, probably NONE at all. It does not effect WOT, and that tube that hangs in the way does not seem to effect hp. You can trim it anyways if you are worried about it...
I would have kept my EGR in place had my intake supported it just for the gas milage and potential pinging issue. Since it effect parts throttle, who cares!
Hope this info helps.
