header torque rate

Default header torque rate

does anyone know what the header bolts should be torqued to? I dont wanna over tighten them. thanks for any input

Put some antiseize on the bolts and torque them to 15 ft lbs starting with the bolts in the front and the back, then torque the middle bolts. After you have them all torqued, then go back and tighten them to 18 ft lbs. It's a little extra work but it helps mash the gasket evenly.

I use a little 1/4 inch drive ratchet, and tighten them until they're snug starting at one end then the other then the middle, then check them all after you've done them once.

Check them again after a couple days of driving around, or a day at the track so you know nothing loosened up.

Little grease on them never hurts either.

what kind of bolts are you guys using?? im getting kooks headers and they come with bolts, those will do the job right??

The new ones that come with your headers will be fine. I've never had a problem with using the header bolts that come with the headers (installed 4 sets, all different brands), but some people like to upgrade. Not really sure what the benefit would be, one of my Camaros was pushing 400+ to the wheels and I never had a problem with the bolts backing out, stripping, or blowing gaskets.

I used the stock manafold bolts, 9.5x and counting, no problems

i used stage 8 locking bolts. i had to tighten the **** out of them to get the tabs to line up. sometimes i had to go to the next one then come back to previous to get header down evenly. they havnt backed off cause some of the tabs move a little. youll need to go back and fourth a few times cause when one end is tight the other may be loose after
