wrong cts?? am i missing something here?

wrong cts?? am i missing something here? Went to OReillys, asked the guy for a 98 Z28 cts (my pcm is 98 and I have 853 heads), and this is what he gave me (oreillys pn WT3000):
Went to install it, and obviously it doesn't fit:
(Circumference is too big):
No, I don't have the original cts. Hate to sound dumb, but am I missing something here??

EDIT. I just used Oreilly's website... First using the 1998 Z28 as my vehicle, and it brought up the same part number you purchased. Using a 1999 Camaro instead of a 1998 brought up this part number:
WT5132
Maybe give that one a try, or at least take a peak at it and compare the two while you're at the store. I'm sure you'll be able to tell a difference in the thread sizes if the one is correct.

Thanks edwardz. I could have sworn that the threads would be the same for a 98 and 99 cts!!

Anyways... I'm wondering if OReilly's has a bad part number listing for '98's. I have a '98 Z as well, and I put some trick flow heads on it, and I never had to replace my coolant sensor. My stock one worked fine... and I can promise you Trick Flow doesn't use '98 castings, LOL. I blame OReilly's. Good luck man.

Did some research; thought I'd share the info. If anyone needs a cts for a 98 PCM, and the dealership is closed, you can go to Advance Auto and get PN WT5121:
As you can see, it has the three prongs, and this one threaded in perfectly:

The heads are not the issue. The sensor they gave you is the wrong part. The 97-98 LS1 cars use a 3 pin sensor. The 99-up cars use a 2 pin. They are physically identical as far as size and thread pattern.

To add to the info on this thread already, the first sensor is a standard thread pattern for SBC type engine (LT1, L98 TPI, etc ...). The LS1 uses an M10 metric thread, which is physically smaller then the older (IIRC) 1/4 NPT.
