Default spark plugs...

I recently purchased a 99 Camaro SS, Ive been driving it for about a month now, but in the lower rmps the car seems to struggle (it like shakes) but in the upper rpms it feels damn strong. So i took it to Autozone and had them check my computer, and the guy tells me it has a cylinder misfire...what causes this? Anywho i took the sprak plugs out and this is what i find. The black tip ones were on the driver side of the engine and the white tips on the passenger.

Plugs have been replaced for Acdelcos

Might need a new (front) driver side o2 sensor. Also are the rear o2's deleted?

You need to go get a real scan using an OBDII scanner like the dealerships use. That will tell you if the 02's are working properly as well as any codes.

But "conan" I think has it...new 02 sensor on the drivers side.

And AC Delcos are the best replacements, also NGK's. All those fancy plugs are bullshit.

rear o2s have simulators with a red blinking light on them...i was also thinking the A/F ratio might be off, butt load of dark gray smoke through the tips, but the tips look relatively clean.

My 4 plugs on the passenger side looked black and sooty like that when my bank 2 sensor 1 O2 went out. You most likely have a bad O2 or a less likely a wiring issue on the way to that O2. If you lose an O2 the factory computer can freak out and richen up 1 bank by altering the short and or long term fuel trim for that side.

Has nothing to do with the plugs. It's o2 related, or coil pack related, spark plug wire.

Try putting those white plugs in the other side, & switch coils, to see if they get fouled up also. Coils are easy to switch. If it was that bad from an o2, you most likely would have a flashing SES light showing a misfire. Good luck.

^^^^^^No it doesn't, not all PCM's are the same. My PCM does not show misfires, bad IAC valve, bad 02's, bad MAF, and I didn;t get an SES light when my Crank Shaft Position sensor was failing badly. BUT.....a REAL OBDII scanner shows things, the scanner that the dealerships use. The cheesy ones at Advance and PepBoys don't show anything.

Don't ask me why either. Thats just my PCM, its like an "idiot PCM."

It has come on for other minor things in the past though.

what scanner being used on your car has nothing to do with where you take the car, there are techs at dealerships that use $300-$400 scan tools and there are techs @ pep boys that use $12,000 modis scan tools, and vise versa, and if your cars ses light doesn't come on when your o2 sensor goes out then there might be another problem with your computer system also, not just the o2

My SES light works for some things and some others, it does not come on. But the code is still there. The cheesy orange $125.00 scanners at Advance and PepBoys in the past HAVE NOT shown any codes. I think once it actually worked telling me that I had a bad MAF, but still no SES. Then I drive to my friends dealership (where he works as a tech) and they use the $4,000 OBDII scanner and it always shows the codes and actually shows you how things are working in real time...ie: how the 02 sensors are switching while the car is running.

My Crank Shaft Position sensor failed, the Advance and PepBoys orange scanners showed nothing. Dealership, instantly showed it and they replaced it.

So, just telling some people that an SES WILL NOT always light. All cars are different.

I've never seen a $12,000 scan tool.

I swaped out the o2 sensor, and it remained the same, installed a new IAC sensor and it still idles at 1,500 switched coil packs left to right, and nothing. But when i unplug the switch were all 4 coils end up(on the side that i had the black plugs) and start the engine, idle came down to 650~700rpm's. Would the injectors play in part with black plugs?

Yes, of course. Find a local tuner or member w/ tuning software in the tuning section or in the Texas member section. They will be able to hook up to your PCM & identify what parts will be needed to correct the issue.

I had the same issue and it ended up being a small vacuum leak. Keep that in mind if you cant solve it soon.
