Default Sitll confused about intake issues....please help......

1997-2000 LS1: #12556333
-5.06 liter Plenum vol
-262mm runner
-.536 liters runner vol

2001+ LS6: # 12573572
-5.19 liters Plenum vol
-262mm runner
-.541 liters runner vol

2002 Truck (LR4,LM7,LQ4 # 12574009)
-4.0 liters Plenum vol
-263mm runner
-.513 liter runner vol
this was posted by Fast4.8 a while ago in the truck section....the numbers confuse me because everyone seems to think that the truck intake is going to outflow the LS1 intake...... while I can see that the LS6 intake is the best of the three and that the LS1 and LS6 intake runners are bigger (therefor the intake velocity will be slower) I CANNOT see how the truck intake is going to outflow (and therefor outpower) the LS1 intake. I also cannot see how the truck maifold is going to produce more overall torque because the LS1 runner length is the same as the LS6 (both are 1mm shorter than the truck runners and the LS6 Intake will equal the truck intake in torque production)...
I have spoken via e-mail to John at Speartech and he tells me I should see no power loss by switching to the LS1 intake (I am prepared for a small torque loss down low but do not expect it)the reason I am concerned is because my LS1 intake is in the mail and I plan on doing the swap very soon....hopefully as soon as John gets me the pics of the truck alternator bracket modified with the relocated idler pulley and rerouted serpetine belt allowing use of the LS1 intake with stock truck accessories

given stock LQ9 heads, a VERY mild cam and assuming the engine will NEVER see more than 6000rpm is the LS1 intake manifold going to be a bottleneck compared to the truck intake??....am I better off sticking with the truck intake and using that for my direct-port plans (which is the main reason other than aesthetics and the fact that the LS1 intake was free that I want to do the switch)

can someone please answer these questions for me before I get into something I will regret???

Thanks....
Al

It will be tough for most guys to give you a true educated answer. The truck manifolds do not physically fit under our cowl, so we haven't been able to test them.

My guess.. the LS6 intake will out perform any of the truck intakes in everything but torque.

how about the LS1 intake ???.....given the numbers above the LS1 should signinficantly outflow the truck intake at higher RPM's and only suffer a minor torque loss down low due to decreased runner velocity....correct ???

It seems to me that as far as RPM bottlenecking goes, you would not have that issue with the LS1 or LS6 manifold.
A truck(stock), typically won't ever see revs past 5500-5900 anyway.
While some LS1 and many LS6 manifolds run at or above 6500 rpm.
I wish I could tell you I tried it already, but not yet.
I too think you're going to be better off going to it.
