It won't make 17 HP more over the LS6 intake unless it's ported. If you look inside the intake you can see how much can be cleaned up by a good port job. It is heavy so just go on a diet and make up for it you fat bastard

You can't go wrong with an LS6 intake, but you can go better

Yeah I bought the kit with fuel rails and regulator, but got the satin finish.. big mistake.. it looks like a peice of scrap metal imo.. the red anodized fuel rails don't do too well when next to the red plastic msd coil packs either..
anyway.. to the point.. the gaskets sent with the mani were complete crap, paper based. its leaking horribly and im going to have to pull it back off. im not messing around this time. going fel pro.. guess i might as well have it ported while its off the car. what did you change in your tune after you put it on?
your polished mani looks nice by the way

I always throw away o-rings that have been torqued for any significant period of time;
That depends on which of the pp mani's you have. If you have the stock size typhoon it will use LS1 hardware. The newer, larger typhoons use LS2 hardware, but not sure about the gaskets. Might wanna call a pp retailer and check just to make sure.

IMO i'd do an ls6. The typhoons have a nice finish, but they just look cheap, like some knockoff you would buy on ebay (which is essentially what they are). If you want another alternative, the BBK SSI is a lot like the Typhoon, and close to the same price. I'd much rather trust BBK than ProfProducts. People who have it like it, but some people flame on it. I'll probably get one of those, and have it ported with a set of ported 243 heads, or if the new Weiland Warrior or whatever its called actually comes out, and lives up to its hype, maybe i'll get that one.

Default intake

I have a 85mm typhoon intake made to work with a 90mm ls2 throttle body.
The intake does get hotter but never lost any power to heat soak. There is a thread on here comparing the ls6 typhoon, and fast 92. For the money i love my intake. Made big difference. They do make at least 17 more wheel and 12tq. they have also done research that once you port them they lose almost 3 hp. Plus dont get the polished they hold heat more get the satin finish. Buy the typhoon man get a 85mm throttle body and just bolt it up youll love it. Youll only lose about 2-3 wheel down low but once you hit 4800 rpms it pulls like crazy.

So has anyone done anything to make the satin finish typhoon look better, but not increase the heat soak issue notably? I've seen one member here that painted his satin finish and it looks good.. maybe a powder coating would be ok?
Also, KLR_LSX, when you had your intake ported, did you have the ports matched to your heads, or just made the ports larger and smooth the airflow out? Just wondering why you would lose HP if youre increasing air flow; maybe you could enrich your fuel curve a bit to compensate?

Default intake

i have never had the intake ported cause i read that they lose power. I thought about it though cause all things react different. I have some kind of paint that this shop put in the inside of mine to make it repel heat better. I always wondered about painting mine cause i was afraid some paint might retain heat and make it hotter. I think they look cool even silver man. Mine inlet is so big my hand and arm fit in it. Plus i had to cut the cowl and stuff on my vette to get it to fit.

I have the 96 MM Typhoon intake on my LS2 GTO. My numbers before intake install were 379 WHP & 401 RWTQ. After install I had 397 WHP & 429 RWTQ.

18 HP & 28 RWTQ gain is not bad for a 500.00 intake. This was on a Mustang Loaded Chassis Dyno

I put a 85mm typhoon intake and 85mm throttle body on a 2004 GTO and it helped the car out alot over its stock LS6 intake. The car had a 224/230 cam, LT headers, dual 2 1/2 inch flowmaster exhaust, K+n cold air kit, 3600 stall, I tuned it, and a 75 shot of juice. The cars best E.t so far was 11.40. We plan on tryin a 150 shot this year once I go over the tune and we also put a 255 pump in ti and a set of stock 243 heads.

How does porting the intake loose hp i figured it would make the intake flow better equaling more power... just a question cuz i have no clue correct me if i am wrong

Default LS1 TYPHOON with 85mm inlet and 96mm inlet

after installing and removing several (4) of these LS1 TYPHOONS on normally aspirated and 1 PAXTON supercharged C5 LSX. I was also sckeptical but after they improved and revised the intake port flange with matching flat card type gaskets embossed with red silicone beads around the ports, NO MORE LEAKS.
BUT, you have to make sure you remove the coolant steam tubes underneath and use the LS6 style block off plugs for added clerance to the underside access cover. The access cover underneath is great for easy access to intake runners for maximum porting if needed. Most castings are kinda rough on purpose, but i like to smoothen them out on the transition side.
Most of the gains without any PCM tune average between 12-18hp over stock LS1 and about 6hp-9hp compared to LS6 composite intakes.
You results may vary of course but a PCM tune is highly reccommended
It is madatory that you must use the matching fuel rail kit included with matching hardware and new injector o-rings of course.

Question 90mm LS2 TB on a 85mm inlet TYPHOON

i was wondering how KLR LSX got the 90mm LS2 four bolt mount tb.........
to mount on the LS1 Typhoon with the 3 bolt mount tb??UNLESS..........
you must have the LS1 TYPHOON with the LS2 inlet flange and matching LS2 injector o-rings included only in the LS1/LS2 version TYPHOO

How is the quality of the mandatory fuel rails on the typoon? Will a ls6 bolt right in my ls1?

Cool Typhoon fuel rails have .594" I.D. anodized red

The matching Typhoon fuel rails included will only fit the matching Typhoon intake. I can honestly say they are okay, I guess. They are aluminum with 3/8" NPT pipe threads on both inlet and outlet. The inside bore diameter measures over a half inch at exactly .594" that is enought to suport up to 1,000hp engines i suppose. They highly reccommend that you make sure you have good thread depth engagment on the fittings and use some liquid thread sealant or teflon paste to seal threads. DO NOT USE TEFLON TAPE!!
Make sure you get it right the first time because otherwise you could risk some fuel leaks and then you are screwed.
As a side note, they also offer an LS1 external regulator kit# 52160 with matching inlet and outlet quick disconnect fuel line fittings for those who need to bypass the stock fuel pressure regulator in the tank.
