engine knocking/surging help!
engine knocking/surging help! feel free to move this where ever. i just need help beause i dont no what is happening. there is a knocking coming from my engine almost like a rod. whenever im cruising in fourth (A4) and i give it as much gas as i can around 50mph without it downshifting it surges like its cutting in and out or not getting fuel on some cylinders. i ran it lean for about two months because of a larger maf sensor but recently switched back to stock about month ago and this started happening just a few nights ago. also, from a stop and punching it, my car use to burn through first and fade through second, now it burns through first second and most of third! new spark plugs? fuel filter? or just wreck it? 
well i just pulled out my dipstick to check my oil and there are metal shavings in it which make me believe it is a rod bearing 
. is it possible for a bad bearing to sound the loudest right below the intake manifold? or something else?

This is from Kaliente(one of the mods here). This is the sound a spun bearing makes. Does it sound like this? If so, you've got a rebuild coming.

something to that extint. the corvettes is louder than mine and has a precise pattern while mine seems to fade in and out. sorry-i later read that at idle that is the belt and the spun bearing is to be heard at rev. mine is making almost the same noise as the belt but inside the motor

Well if your finding shavings on the dipstick it could be almost anything. The rocker arms have bearings in them that I have heard will come out. One or more of your lifters could have locked up also. You could have spun a bearing. I would take the valve covers off and inspect the rocker arms since they will be the easiest to look at and go from there or just drive it til breaks. Maybe it'll be something simple.

Well, I can definitely tell you something is up. Start with a compression test and lookin at the rocker arms, etc. If you blow low compression, you need to figure what's causin that and that means tearing her down.
