i effed up...

went out to check the car today since it was getting dark when i put it back last night and... big puddle of oil under the car as well as a line out to the shed and a puddle outside the shed i assume where the car sat while i got out and opened the door. from what I could see its probably coming from the sending unit... probably put it in wrong?? is this possible? it threaded in nicely and we snugged it down pretty tight... i assume it would leak if its too loose but what about too tight??

turned the key on to unlock the wheel to move the car out onto the pavement so i could jack it up and also discovered some fuel on the front end of the drivers side fuel rail at the plastic piece. i turned the key off wiped the rail and turned it back on to charge the system and the end of the rail just very slowly became damp with fuel and would have probably taken a couple minutes to make a drop... so are my fuel rails shot now too...

ne body know of problems with getting the oil sending unit in? and what do I do about the fuel? Luckily ive got another vehicle i can drive so I can get back down to school.

Please help...

you have to hold the back bolts up because you cant get them completely out since the cowl hangs over them and you need to hold them up 1-2" so theyre up out of the holes in the block and dont hang up when you pull it out.

hopefully your doin this to your '99. if your swapping in an LS6 intake. jus makin sure you know the '01-'02's have the ls6 intake stock.

I did this swap but didnt break my sending unit. However, since you say that you threaded the new sending unit in the block, did you put teflon tape on the threads before you put it in? This will seal the threads and keep oil from escaping the block. I use this on every oil sending unit fitting I install on my other vehicles and have been leak free.

With the right tools, you should be able to do it in 2.5-3 hours. It took me 2.5 hours start to finish and it was the first one I've ever done. Review the write ups thoroughly before you start the swap.

To avoid breaking the oil pressure sending unit, I lifted the intake straight up, then put my arm under the intake, and wrappe my fingers around the back of it and pulled it forward to be sure that I put no pressure on the oil pressure sending unit.

i know mine did not have any teflon tape on it. I dont know about the crush ring... i assume if i got it too tight that i would have crushed it right? i cant imagine that it would leak as fast as it was if it was only leaking since there was no tape on it.

it leaked a lot. just sitting outside the shed for 45 seconds while I opened the door it ran out a normal dinner plate size puddle. I drove the car from our shop to home which is about 4 miles and once i realized what was happening and checked the oil it was just on the bottom half inch of the add zone on the dipstick.
