Default Catch can placement affect performance

I know most people with catch cans, including myself, mount them close to the engine. But my question is instead of mounting the catch can on or near the engine, where the can gets hot, mount it away from the engine where it would remain cool. Now wouldnt the catch can being away from the engine, running much cooler, help to condense and trap the oil when it comes in.??Any thoughts. It makes sense to me

Are you still getting oil in your intake with the "normal" mounting location? Maybe try a breather cap if you are. Or a better can.

Is your routing from the can to the intake "uphill"?

The cooler the can the better. A temperature decrease will help the carry over oil fall out of suspension better. Putting a marginally designed catch can in a cool place will help it 'catch' more oil vapor.

I have a AMW and have to mounted in front of the passenger headlight and I would say the can only catches maybe 1/2 the oil going into the intake. The rest gets sucked out of the can. The ridges inside the can are supposed to stop that but don't work.

Typical of this catch can, not a good design.

so who has the best designed catch can? i never really worried about it till i did my ls6 intake install and there was a good amount of oil in there. the next day after the ls1 was sitting there was liquid oil that ran out on my counter....how easy is the install and is there any other mods required?
