Default MAF problem

ok first of all does the MAF have anything to do with my gas milage. my problem is i just put the cam in with a tune and the milage is ****. i get 160 with a full tank. my friend cheak it with his computer and it reads the MAF and i deconnected the MAF and the computer still reads it. does anyone know why it would do this?????????????

it will say something like 35mhz even when unplugged. it is not reading when it says this.
