Default oil filter housing question

On top of the oil filter housing (right about where the oil filter screws in) their is what seems to be an attachment held on by two bolt holes, with a hole pointing up. What is the point of this? Is something supposed to screw into that hole?

Original use was for a temperature sender. Most either plug it or use it as a pressure sender for an aftermarket gauge.

It's also a good place to connect an aftermarket gauge, without using any type of adapter, if that piece has pipe threads in it.

Does anyone have a part number for that housing? I want add a sending unit but don't want the downtime of using the original.
