need help fast!

need help fast! im doing a header swap on my 88 trans am, it has an 02 ls1/t56.
the headers are long tube 1 3/4 stainless with 3" collectors, exhaust is an slp loudmouth system.
my question is, what size y piipe should i get, the exhaust shop keeps telling me to go with 2.5" but ive heard to go with a 3". i will have a 3" cutout in a few days also.
does it make much sense to have 2, 3" pipes go into 1, 3" pipe? is the stock y pipe 2.5 or 2.75?

was also wondering how much hp can be gained from....

no cats w/bigger y pipe
slp loud mouth exhaust or cutout open.
ive also got a ported tb, ud pulley, msd wires (whoop d dooo)
and a power robbing 9"
