Default PCV system question

Hey guys, I've got a quick question regarding the PCV system. I've been reading about a few guys eliminating it and just using a breather in place of the oil cap on the drivers side. Is this legit?

I mean it would clean up quite a bit but don't you still need a PCV system in place? If it can be eliminated I would be all for cleaning up the engine bay but I would imagine it would affect engine performance just having the breather and nothing else.

It works, but I hope you don't mind a fine oil mist all over your engine compartment.

Yeah, I know that's an issue. Although with as much as I clean the engine bay it probably wouldn't be too bad lol.

From a performance standpoint though... does it do a good job of venting the pressures out of the crankcase. I know the PCV system actually will pull a slight vacuum on the crankcase to help evacuate it. I wouldn't imagine that a single breather on the passenger valve cover would do a very good job of releasing an adequate amount of pressure.

That how I am setup............no ill effects and really very little misting. I also added a second breather off the rear drivers side valve cover where the hose from the PCV originated.

This has been a debate for some time. From what I have read, many people have done it and had no problems. However, there are risks. I ended up switching to the ls6 system and so far it seems to be working.
