Both my LS1s made that exact noise, also louder under the car for whatever reason. My LS6 does not. Neither of the LS1s had any problems.

You say it started after the oil change - what filter are you using?

My 02 w/ only 32k makes the same noise. Seems louder under the car like Arc00ta mentioned. I've tried to isolate it and it appears to be from the front of the motor and not in valve cover area. Could be water pump or accessory related. Have yet to remove the belt to see if it changes. Weird thing is, sometimes it's perfectly quiet.

Same thing happened to me. After I changed to Pennzoil the problem went away. I lived with it for about 2 years though, I had heard lifter tap was common with LS1s when I first bought mine

I would also like to know what filter you are using. I've seen Fram filters cause lifter tap on several Gen 3 vehicles.

Mine did the same thing but only after I changed the plugs and wires. Come to find out I didnt have one of the wires on the plug all of the way. Could see the wire jumping.
