my 3" true duals with straight pipes still let the car run fantastic...LOUD but fantastic.
if anything it shifted the hp/tq peaks a little higher, but it still ran great.
put a 24" summit racing bullet muffler on there to just tone it down a little. takes out some of the rasp.

otherwise why would guys run dual cutouts? or TDs even?
it was either in your mind, or something was wrong (false knock, air hitting the o2 sensors...etc).
remember...the purpose of performance exhaust systems are to reduce backpressure. so as long as you have enough exhaust length to allow proper scavenging (headers and a ypipe WOULD)...than you'll make the best power with the least restriction.
like i said it may have shifted your power peak around, making it feel more sluggish in the bottom end.
