Installing Header Bolts
When i put headers on my 9,400 mile LS 1 I used stage 8, were the originals good enough to use again? Probably. There probably in the trash pile now.
If you use a 1/4 inch drive ratchet set, your not going to be able to get enough tourque with that to break a bolt, if its a new bolt.
Your ratchet will probably slip before you break the bolt.
Dont try and tq. bolts one at a time.
Start and work your way to the rear tightening a little.
Do this about 4 times so that you are drawing down the whole header evenly.
Each time from front to rear you are getting a little tighter.
When i heard a slight squeek, i new i was about there.
It takes a few years of continious mechanic work to get the Jedi mindset of knowing when a bolt is just right or about to snap.
With my Kooks Header and Y, i had to install the Y before i tourqed the headers cause of the angle the headers were at, i couldnt get the Y in place. I learned the hard way.
Hopes this helps someone on their first header install.
