Valve Cover Breather.........
Valve Cover Breather......... An aquantance of mine has a METCO valve cover breather:

The breather cap pushes in rather than screws in and he related to me that under some spirited driving, the cap came off spraying the underside of his hood with oil and also over his engine.
Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue.............?

The o ring on my dipstick went bad once and did something similar (popped up) but not as bad as what your situation did. Changed to a new dipstick with a slightly fatter O ring and no problems.
