Default OEM Lid ?

I have been playing around with the idea of just grinding down the baffles on the stock intake lid. If I managed to back it smoother, (maybe polish the whole thing inside) would this in effect do the same justice as the SLP lid? I know it would be difficult to do, but I think with patience it could be done. Even if the baffles were 90% down, it would have to create a better effect, even if it is a very small gain. My question is if the SLP (or any of the aftermarket) lid is taller or shaped different than the OEM, besides the smoother interior.

While I am at it, I can also do the "DIY cold air" induction with the lower plate. I think that if done correctly, these two could come close to an aftermarket piece. I like the idea with staying OEM and I think someone had to have tried this before.

Oh, and I just picked up the camaro two days ago. 98 Z28 convertible with 88,000 and the auto. Sorry if this has been discussed, I could not find it anywhere...

It can be done as I have done it before. However, I ended up going with a Lid anyways.

Congrats on the find.

I have a directflow lid now, but my old stock lid is in the cabinet. I sucessfully ported the ribs down and I also deleted the air silencer balloon type things on the sides. For just a few hours work it seemed to help...

did you guys notice anything in comparison to an aftermarket lid? I forgot about the side baffles...maybe the best thing to do for now is to cut out the bottom of the box and the plastic under that.

Blackfang,
Why did you decide on going with a lid after doing that? Any difference now?

another problem thats been described to me every time this comes up is that the lid goes from oval to round very quickly with the stock piece. I dont know how true that is, but it makes sense to me. ive got an SLP lid and besides the flowmaster that was on the car when i got it, it was my first mod.

I agree. Aftermarket lid won't break the bank and will save you from wondering if the mod worked.
