Default Loc tite on header bolts?

I know most of you guys are going to think I am crazy for asking this, but did anyone use loc-tite on their header bolts? I noticed that the factory manifold bolts had some sort of yellow stuff in the threads and I'm assuming it was loc-tite. I was considering using blue loc-tite (medium strength, serviceable) so that the header bolts don't back out. Good idea or not? I don't have locking bolts and I need to get this project done in the next two days.

I've never had a problem with header bolts backing out, so I've never used loctite on them. You'll be fine without it, but if you want to use it for peace of mind then I'd use the blue paste. Don't use red.

It would just cook off as the header flange gets too hot, I actually use anti-seize on all the header bolts to keep them from hanging up in the aluminum heads and pulling the threads out or breaking off when you have to remove one later down the road

Header bolts from the factory are actually laced with some loctite, thats what the crusty stuff is on the threads when you pull them out.

But as I said I don't think it's necessary. I haven't used one dab of loctite on a header install since the old LT1 days.

Several years and many miles...no problems with mine. I even bought the locking ones but decided not to use the locks.

Wow. Am I the only guy who's used Loctite? I used the Blue on every set of headers I've installed. I've even removed them once in order to install motor mounts. No troubles at all.

I guess if these guys haven't had any trouble with the bolts backing out, there really isn't much need for it. I'm still glad I used it and will again on future installs. Your call man.

I work in the Aerospace sector and we use this Loctite C5-A. I also use it on EVERY fastener on my car as well. It also works great on spark plugs due to the copper content. If you use the silver you will not get a good ground for your plug.
Here is a link of what I use: http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT...MT4NO=67193684

the 2 back bolts on my passenger side header had broken off so I had to retap them and I have had to replace two manifold gaskets because of the bolts backing out from those two that were re tapped, I'm considering using the blue Loctite to keep them from backing out.

Old thread...
Blue locktite won’t help anything, it melts when warm, way below engine operating temperature.
Anti seize and re tighten bolts once a year. Or install Stage 8 locking fasteners.
