what vendors offer porting, at resonable prices. say im wanting just a little more, and basically a freshening up. my friend will sell me his LS6 heads and intake for 400 bucks. these will be an improvement over the 241's and the LS1 intake. someone to port the intake and the heads (slightly) and a port match, and valve job.

Wow thats a good deal, normally those intakes go for almost as much alone. You will see a nice gain just by throwing on those 243s and the ls6 intake, just make sure you get it tuned. Most places ive seen locally and online will charge anywhere between 600-1200 just for the heads. Talk to Texas Speed, they used to have some kind of deal where you send them your stock heads and they credit you towards their worked heads.

TEA, TSP, and Patriot all offer very affordable CNC pricing if you send them your stock heads. Patriot is probably the cheapest of the 3.

i hear ya on the tune. i put long tube on before i left and have about 8 codes now....it runs harder but crappier at the same time.....

ill look into those, and ive been checking the patriot, idk if i want to dump a grand in heads, just the 243s alone are an improvement.

ok, looking around a little im getting interested in texas speed. for about a grand they do some cool stuff with 243s and 5.3 heads

does anyone have a breakdown of the differences in the 2.5 5.3 head and the stage 1 243's? the look to flow about the same but the 5.3s are 100 bucks more. they're both claiming the same. can i get some pros/cons on the differences.

idk, i guess i have about 400-450 in mind. and i also have 100 shot on the car now, havent used it yet due to the fact i need a tune. do you think this would be too much for a stock bottom end ls1 or could i go up to 500 na with a 100 shot? my motor has about 25k and its a crate. i ran the numbers on the block and its a LS6 block w 241 heads. so basically a 01/02 motor.

i know TEA does some pretty good porting but i dont know the cost. 100 shot on the stock bottom shouldnt be a problem.

heres a whole thread in the nitrous section about that:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/nitrous-o...ottom-end.html

I would look into upgrading the fuel system if you didnt do that already.

ok, im starting to figure out the 5.3 2.5s and the 243 stage 1. the 5.3s from tsp come with thier double springs, the 243s you can get them for 250 more so with the same springs the 243s are a 200 more. outside of a few slow differences theyre the same. and the 5.3s yeild a 10.75 compression ratio. probably about the same as some 243s, unless they mill them

well i know you can make really good power with those 243's stock.... but ported is always better...

My cam made around 430hp with with stock 243's and was actually setup for PRC 5.3 stg2.5 heads..... but i changed my setup befor i got the PRC heads.....lol.

I would run the stock 243's, and cam that beast! You'll get alot more HP for your $$$ if you spend that cash on doing a cam than you will on heads!

When you get back to the states we'll have to get that thing in the garage and get it fixed up real nice!
