I am a fan of the 2002-up LS6 cam but $200.00 is alittle high but I guess its reasonable, make sure like someone above said its has 5308 on the numbers on the back end of it (if I remember right its the first 4 numbers on top back of the cam). You will need longer pushrods because the valves in the LS6 2002 up where a hair longer (7.425) but (7.40) will work but for the valves to be the quieter with the 7.425 correct lenth. Changing the lifters is alot of work (removing heads, head bolts and gaskets unless you have alot of miles on your motor I wouldn't and if I was going to I would buy a real nice set (Morels, LS7 ect) unstead of stock ones you already have. Me peronally I would get the Comp Cam 918 springs also for added security.

Mid 12s? If he ran mid 12s I would think he only had bolt ons.

Did everyone who said the price was too high notice that it came with pushrods, lifters, and springs? I don't think $200 is too bad for all of that. OP already said ls6 cam is out though so my vote goes for a 224.

I come real close to going this route(Z06 cam) as I found one for sale in the classifieds. I was told wasnt worth the trouble, so I went with a 228 cam. Its a very nice step up, but I almost wish I went just a lil bigger like a torquer2, 230 dur, .600 lift.

Also, for $200, it's not worth it at all. A new cam is often times around the same price. If you're going to go through the trouble of installing a cam, get a new one that makes more power.

You might find a used cam for that price, just the new cam alone is around $350, & if you do it right & buy new springs, pushrods, timing chain, gaskets, oil pump its closer to a grand. Thats if you do it yourself.

Yeah. My thoughts too. But if you want something that drives as if it's stock and doesn't sounds too cammy, the 228R is perfect. But I do agree that a bigger cam is the way to go. I personally would like to put in the TSP 233/239 cam. Lots of duration and plenty of lift. I would use the Stage 2.5 LS6 heads too. But I've decided to keep my current stock h/c and go with a blower.

Yeah, true it would cost more if you buy everything, but if you're going to buy a used cam for $200, you still need to buy that stuff too. You're only saving yourself a couple hundred dollars and you don't even know the condition of the cam you're getting until you finally receive it.

But pay 3 times as much for the rockers. Stupid idea.
