A/C Compressor Belt Question

If during the winter months, if I removed my a/c compressor belt would my heat still work? Would I gain any power? Would gas mpg improve?

most defrosters work with the ac. so the heat will work but youll have to drive around like ace ventura till your windows clear up.

thanks, so I guess as long as I keep it in the garage in the morning I guess I'll be ok. Ultimately probably not worth the trouble though.
