Realistic Gains from a Re-Tune?
Its an LS6 with .020" over pistons and the head decked slightly. When I figured it out I am at about 10.8:1 compression. When I rebuilt it I installed the TR224 cam and springs.
The car made 376rwhp/380rwtq at the tires. That is all stock except the cam...stock manifolds, etc.
When the car was tuned leaning it out didn't really make a difference. We pointed a temperature gun at the manifolds, and when we went from 12.0 to 13.1 the manifold got hotter but power didn't go up at all.
So the tuner left it at around 12.2:1 afr at WOT.
I have the car partially apart to change the pilot bearing. I am going to install LG streets with cats. My thinking is the headers will probably lean me out to around 13.0 on their own....and that will be most of the power gain.
Is a $400 retune worth my money? Or am I probably looking at 5hp?
