Taking Engine Out!

Taking Engine Out! should i take the oil pan off the motor before i try and pull it out the top?any suggestions on pulling it out of the top??? helpful hints?? any would help, thanks!!!
You can leave the heads and the tranny on and still pull it from the top. Just remove everything else and the trick is to get the motor and tranny as vertical as possible...and having at least 2 friends around to help out makes a big difference.
I pulled mine and installed it this way but next time I will do it from the bottom.

so when i put my new one in, i could put the tranny on first before i put the motor in and not have to try to reach all of the bolts?? that would be very helpful!!
Yep, you can put the tranny on before you stab it in the car. You need a 'cherry picker' with a long arm and lots of travel.
What I had to do was start lifting the motor and tranny out then jack the front of the car up and put it on jack stands. This allows more ground clearance for the tranny when going vertical with it.
Reverse the procedure for installing it.

I pulled mine out the top and it wasnt that bad. Just took the heads off plus all the other little stuff.
Does anyone know if theres a website or link to pictures on how all the wiring goes back when putting a motor back in?
I saw theres a LT1 website like that but what about LS1's?
