What is best? Aftermarket head or just have the stock head worked? Some has said that even if you get aftermarket head they will also have to be worked too.

I think you should be a little more specific on the application.
As for a very general "what is the best head", there is a strong case that can be made for AFRs (Air Flow Research).

AFR and Trick Flow are some of the best aftermarket castings out there. TEA will port some stock castings that perform very good as well. It really depends on your budget and goals.

What are the gains of having stock heads worked, I was actually wondering this today. I just dont want to spend so much money for heads, so if anybody knows prices for stock heads being worked that would be cool too.

The gains are due to the fact that you can make the stockers flow pretty damn well at a decent price. If you're on a budget then checkout www.texas-speed.com Their PRC stage 2.5 5.3's or LS6 heads flow very well at a good price.
