Default Dayco = Garbage

I started getting a squeak from my main accessory drive system recently. Checked the pullies, all seem good, so I conclude its probably the belt. After all, its an original GM belt, and I could see its slightly glazed.

So I go down to Advance and get a Dayco belt for $26. Can't beat that, right??

Note that I got one of the new style Dayco "W" belts, which use a different style of ribbing on the belt which is supposed to be quieter. All the new Dayco belts are this design, you can tell because the ribbed surface is fuzzy and has sparkles in it for whatever reason.

I match the belts up and it looks good - correct length and width. I put the belt on, start it, and it immediately kicks off and hit the ground...ok, must have been off the edge of a pulley or something. I install it 5 MORE TIMES...kicks off every time within about 3 seconds of starting it. I even have my girl start the car while I watch the belt - it would run true, then unexpectedly come flying off for no apparent reason. I put my used GM belt back on, no problem (besides the squeak), stays on fine.

I returned the belt to Advance, looks like I'll have to get one from GM or another parts store.

I've had the old style Dayco serpentine for like 5+ years...its still perfect. And I have a new style Dayco A/C belt for about 3 months now. Maybe the new serpentines have a problem.

Come to think of it I have a Dayco A/C belt as well that I installed at the beginning of the summer...however I think it was the old style, not the "W" rib like the newer ones.

I just installed a new Dayco a/c belt and it works fine.Maybe it was just that perticular belt was not right.I would probably use a belt from a different company.I usually use AC Delco and I buy them online because I get a better deal that way.Try another belt.

I looked over the belt multiple times and it had no visual defects, looked perfectly fine.

I think it has something to do with the "W" rib design and our main drive systems, for some reason it just kicks the belt off.

I've heard Goodyear Gatorback belts are good, might have to try one of those.

hahahahahaha

I should have knocked on wood........my 3 month old Dayco A/C belt.....the sumbitch is starting to squeak. When I turn the A/C "on" for the first time of the day, it squeaks for about 2 minutes. Then it won't squeak again all day no matter how many times I stop and let it sit.

I guess there newly designed belts have an issue....

Wierd.

gates green label is a good one as well. a lot of the time a belt squeak is just because of dirt. takes it off wash it with dawn and put it back on, this usually fixes it. if there's dry rotting or stretch replace immediately.

Default Belt Issue

Goodyear or Gates they are a little more expensive. But I bet you wont have to install it more than once. Take a good look at the tensioner as well,

I picked up the gatorbacks last weekend at Autozone. I have not had a chance to double check them against a set of old belts yet, but the ones they gave me where 4060790/6pk2005 for the big one and 4040410/4pk1040 for the small one.

just take your old belts to any store and they can size match it to what ever brand they carry. this ensures there are no computer errors or if you have pullies.
