Default Muffler is bad, replacement?

I have a hooker catback and the muffler has developed a nasty rattle that really can't be fixed. Is there a direct replacement muffler I can get? I'm looking for a little louder but I'm not sure what kind of muffler can replace it

Thanks

is it 3in tubing? because if it is this is the muffler that that catback came with.

^ Not correct. This is the direct replacement for a Hooker catback w/ 3"/2.5". http://www.holley.com/21729HKR.asp

Damn mine too! I'm almost sure that its 3" into the muffler and 2 1/2" out to the exaust tips. I was actually thinking about taking mine off and running a single 3" in/out inline bullet type muffler single exaust. I've already got a DMH electric cutout under the passenger seat location that I open at the track. The mufflers that come on a Hooker catback are heavy as hell and I would have never thought they would come apart on the insides like they have done.

Darn, I'd rather spend the money to upgrade to true duals now

The replacement is only about $100 and true duals will take you way beyond that. That being said, I run a single 3" in/out Hooker Maxflow. They run about $70 and are pretty light at 13 lbs.

Is there another muffler that would be compatible as a "drop-in"?

Is it any louder than the regular hooker muffler? And how does it work considering there is 1 inlet/2 outlets on the regular muffler?

Basically you just separate the Aerochamber from the over-the-axle pipe, weld or clamp the Maxflow on, and then have one 3" tailpipe fabbed with a turndown on the end.

Testing shows the Maxflow a little quieter at idle and part throttle and louder at WOT than the Aerochamber. I had an Aerochamber on my car for a while and I'd say the Maxflow sounds deeper and a little louder.

Do a search on "Maxflow" and you'll find threads with my install, the first guy to do it, db levels and other info.

I replaced the hooker muffler in my hooker catback with the F-body specific Dynomax muffler 3" in/Dual 2.5" out. It was almost a perfect fit. All I had to do was weld a 3 bolt flange to it and it fit perfect. I think I paid about $70 for it.

Default Borla FTW

I would Go with the Borla ProXS Mufflers they are the most powerfull. Makes more HP than the cutouts.
