Default when a tune is needed.

1) I have just bought a ported TB and ported MAF will that MAF mess with anything in a bad way ?

2) When i take all my EGR and AIR out after header install will that cause my car to run funny or whats it all going to effect.

3) What will i need to run an ORY right...do i need o2 sims or what ?

Do i need a tune after all this ? mostly after the EGR and MAF ?

THanks

not a guru on this but i dont think you need a tune unless you dont want to see a check engine light because of the egr/air being pulled out and going with a ory but there shouldnt be anything wrong with the car performance wise. IMO o2 sims are a waste of money, just get the code tuned out when ever you get a tune or find a friend with hp tuners to do it for you like i did. it is to my understanding that you really dont NEED a tune unless you get an aftermarket cam. again, dont quote me as I am fairly new to modding also.

Ditch that 'ported' MAF. If you feel like you HAVE to mod your MAF (and I don't understand the general obsession with this part) then take out the screen.

Agreed.

Even a bone stock car can benefit from a tune.

A tune will pull MORE power out with any engine modification and even a stock car can benefit from at tune. A computer has no idea what your doing to a motor. All it sees is numbers from the sensors in the engine bay. It can only adjust so much, lets say from here <......> to here. If you put a tune on it then it can now adjust from here<....................> to here. If you put a air lid, K&N, MAF, TB, and intake a tune will allow more fuel to go with all the extra air your providing it and more air and fuel at the right ratio = more power.

I have done the EGR and AIR delete, the ory with absoluty no back 02's and havent had a single problem. Ran just as good as before if not better. Now, i am having problems with my MAF, but its stock. Other than that, i have NO tune and im running without a problem.

ported MAF usually = ruined MAF. If you HAVE to use it, wait until you go to get tuned and take your stocker with you in case the ported MAF is not repeatable on the dyno.

IMO you should keep the stock maf, period. Or go to a GM screened 85mm unit. Throw the ported-descreened maf in the trash. Or sell it to the next sucker.

Do you need a tune? Not really. But why not? It'll give the best gains for any mod you add to your car. If you're planning on alot of mods in the future and you have a decent learning curve. I'd say buy tuning software plus a decent wideband. Study, read, study some more, and then do your own tuning. Learn to do it the right way.

That's solid; nevermind what the guys with the widebands and dyno sees regularly, all his boys do it and they run great... they "deep screen them" too.

hahaha i love when people ask for advice and then ignore reputable sources of information for the cheaper or easier alternative

but anyway you'll be fine with an ls6 intake with no tune

So you listen to what everyone else says? That's where you're making a big mistake. Before just listening to what everyone else says, gather up as much info. as possible. Don't just agree to what the majority says. A lot of times, people will guide you to how they would do it or want it. Like with the ported maf, you probably bought it because one of your friends told you about it or you heard about it. If you gathered info. on ported mafs, you wouldv'e known that it wasn't worth getting. As goes for the tune, a tune is one of the best mods if not the best. It would be best if you waited until you at least had full exhaust, because after certain mods, your computer needs to be adjusted for the modification you previously done to it. Take for instance, if you got lower gears, you got to get it retuned. So always try to do a combo of mods at a time, less retunes=less money spent.
