Is running straight pipes with no catback of muffler ok for the engine?

Really? I took mine off and it's louder and still have the same sound. The only difference is when i let off the gas it doesn't sound as smooth. Maybe i have a crappy catback. lol

as long as the pipes are long enough to prevent outside air from hitting the o2 sensors...it will be fine.

Like mentioned above, as long as you put some extensions off the headers so the O2 sensors aren't reading any outside air it should be fine. I would check and see if you have any local vehicle sound restrictions. I've had a couple of those tickets and they aren't cheap!
