MAF problems (i think)

Default MAF problems (i think)

So I took my '01 SS and put headers on it with a Y-Pipe following them. I also took the stock cam out and put in a GM Hot Cam in its place. Now the car runs really rough unless i unplug the MAF sensor. If I unplug it, it runs like a champ, despite being a little rich. If I plug the MAF back in it goes back to running rough, like it almost wants to die at an idle. Any suggestions?

I would suggest a tune for sure. After that many mods its almost imperative.

I also took the converters off the exhaust so that might make a difference as well?

That shouldn't matter. However, you may have messed up your front O2 sensors. Only remove the REAR ones. Make sure you didnt do anything to them.

I only mentioned it to him because he didn't say yes or no to having one. I am pretty sure it is a oxygen related problem. Or he has them plugged in to the wrong spot. It happens.

With the exhaust I put on, I am only able to put one oxygen sensor on each end of the long tube headers. Is there something I should be doing different there? Im sure I need a tune because I havent had one yet, but I just want to make sure there's nothing else I need to do before I proceed with the tune.

Some people get O2 simulators for the rear wires but if you're getting it tuned you can just have the code deleted where it won't show anyway.

How many miles are on the car? It might be time to put some fresh ones in it anyway. If it's a high mileage car with original sensors I'd grab some new ones before I got it tuned to make sure the car isn't getting incorrect readings.

It sounds to me like your car is running open loop, having the injectors pour fuel. I'd pull a couple plugs and see if they need to be changed also before you went to see the tuner.
