Default Is the stock catback restrictive?

I just installed a set of headers and y pipe on my 02 today but I still have my stock catback. The stock unit looks like it has decent flow but am I really leaving alot on the table by keeping it for now?

Yes its restrictive. I run a stock catback when I want to be quiet, but I have a cutout when you need to ...which is pretty much all the time.

A cutout from DMH is 199 and a catback for TSP is 239 so Im kinda leaning towards just getting an actual catback for that kind of coin but I'm just weighing my options too

For the price of a catback and the y-pipe you already bought, you could have bought true duals. Not only would it sound 10 times better, it would flow much better than a y-pipe as well. Sale the y-pipe and buy duals now so you don't have to do it later. TD's can be had for 250.00-400.00 all day long.

I spent $150 dollars on headers and a catted 3 inch y pipe.

Thanks for coming out. Better luck next time

I'm gonna say yeah its restrictive. I still have the stock cat back on my car, and I know it would sound and perform much better with TD's or a better catback.

i run the stock cat back, i do have long tubes with 2 cutouts, i love the quite from the stock cat back, have been thinking of a mufflex or true dules which i have had both before on a third gen, i must be getting old as each time i am about to order a new exhaust , i think about how quite my car is now and leave it alone.

just do a manual cutout for $50 or so with install.

i suggest getting a piece of straight 3" pipe, run that from the Ypipe to the 3" cutout, then run the stock catback from there.

i could pull the plate on/off my old cutout in 2 mins

Good for you. If you want a shitty sounding and performing exhaust, go for it lol. That is a good price for those parts though.
