Default 1 7/8 Headers

Anyone have them? What are everyones thoughts on them? How much additional gain over 1 3/4"?

Its recommended that you go with a 1 -3/4" header. 1 7/8" headers are for big strokers.

Although there are a couple people here running 1 7/8" headers on 346's. Not enough testing or data to warrant if they will lose power in low and midrange. Use the search and see what you find.

I am running Kooks 1 7/8th straight headers on my 427. I have no idea if they would be good on a 346, I think not.

Unless your car will see a HUGE shot of gas with that NX kit, I personally dont think that you need them. They are used for larger cube motors. Over kill for the 346.

Correct me if im wrong but if you put to large a header on a smaller engine (i.e. the 346) wont you lose a lot of low end torque? 1 7/8 are normally used for FI or No2 applications from what ive seen.

We have been using 1 3/4 on N/A 383(550hp@ flywheel) & 1 7/8 0n FI 347 (650 rwhp)I want to make some 1 3/4 try-y's for testing just to see if we can gain some mid range whilst retaining top end,I'm still yet to prove that the 1 3/4 4-1 are any better than 1 5/8 4-1 on a near stock engine (comparing mph).I would also like to try a narrowed down pro stock style collectors as well.Does anyone have any thoughts.
People might laugh at the idea of try-y's on the LS1 but even high rpm, high output 160 hp/litre motorcycles have gone that way now, maybe a better torque curve is achieved overall.

Cheers Glenn

Just to muddy the waters a little

I have 1 7/8's mid length Whisper headers on my Stock Internals car.

With the big stall and high rpms that this car runs, the big tubes don't seem to hurt it.

Me neither. I don't percieve a loss down low at all and I'm far from heavily modded. I went 1 7/8 because I didn't want to buy headers again when I went with a stroker later on.
