Its recommended that you go with a 1 -3/4" header. 1 7/8" headers are for big strokers.
Although there are a couple people here running 1 7/8" headers on 346's. Not enough testing or data to warrant if they will lose power in low and midrange. Use the search and see what you find.

Unless your car will see a HUGE shot of gas with that NX kit, I personally dont think that you need them. They are used for larger cube motors. Over kill for the 346.

Correct me if im wrong but if you put to large a header on a smaller engine (i.e. the 346) wont you lose a lot of low end torque? 1 7/8 are normally used for FI or No2 applications from what ive seen.

People might laugh at the idea of try-y's on the LS1 but even high rpm,high output 160 hp/litre motorcycles have gone that way now,maybe a better torque curve is achieved overall.

Me neither. I don't percieve a loss down low at all and I'm far from heavily modded. I went 1 7/8 because I didn't want to buy headers again when I went with a stroker later on.
