Default Tachometer not working after head and cam swap

So I checked and double checked all connections and have not found anything unplugged. All gauges work on the dash except the tach. It doesn't move and actually decreases rpm slightly when I give it gas. Could I have hooked it up ... upside down or reversed the wires? Am I correct to believe that the tach signal is read off of the cam position sensor? There is a code that is being thrown so I will have to go to the parts store and see what it is.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I believe you answered your own question. Camshaft Position Sensor.

A friend had a mouse chew through the wiring going to his CPS while the car was in storage. Exact same issue. No Tach. He fixed the wiring and all is better.

Talking Found the problem

I took off the intake and everything was fine. Just before going to the parts store to get a sensor, I searched more on this site and came across a post from 2004 with a few people who had the same problem.

I had disconnected and removed my EGR stuff. Right near that connection is another connection that when disconnected doesn't give you the Cam Position and results in a hard start and no tach indication while the engine is running. SES light is off and all is running well. This site rocks!

Glad you got it figured out. Little things like that can be frustrating after something like a cam swap.
