I'm switching from Mac's to Pacesetters in that I think they'll help me out more in the long run once I get the heads back... I ordered my set through Texas Speed & Performance on a Mon & they were at my work by Wed.. I dont' know why some of you say they're junk, the quality was just as good as the Macs if not better for half the price... That's just my 2 pennies...

As I posted in the other MAC thread, I've had both MACs and LTs. The MACs were a breeze to install...both sides dropped in from the top with the passenger VC removed. Nothing rubbed, ground, or leaked and I made 30rwhp with the MACs (with cats!) and a LS6 intake on an otherwise stock untuned car. When I went with a big H/C package, I had a HP number in mind and was encouraged to use the LTs to hit that target. I can't complain about the long tubes and really wonder why the MACs get slagged so much. They are dirt cheap used (I sold mine for under $300) and with a little collector work will make great power.

I just installed pacesetters on my car and it wasn't that hard the passenger side was very easy but on the driver side I had to jack the motor up and grind a little on the k member. The headers looked really good to me. I still need to order a y-pipe was going to order the pacesetter but are there any other brands that I could buy?

I doubt there are any other Y pipes you could buy without having to modify to fit. The Pace Setter header collector outlet is directed so close to the floor that the Y pipe has to be crushed or formed down to clear. Pace Setter should have made the header longer so no crush would be required. Ground clearance would be a little less but flow would be better too. I just installed the Pace Setter headers but have not installed the Y pipe as yet. I'm in the process of reworking the collector in the Pace Setter Y by installing the Flowmaster collector. I'll post pics when I have it done.

Quite possibly the crushed portion of the Pace Setter drivers pipe will flow as much as most engines will require. It has more area than a 2 1/2" pipe even with the crush. The real problem lies in the collector.

after reading all this i am even more confused. I am currently running MAC's right now with 2.5 true duals dumped at the axle, but may be stepping up soon with cam or H/C and wondering if the MACs can handle it. I really dont want to have to spend the extra money to get LT's and get my dual exhaust redone, but I do want to get the most out of the car. Any good advice on this would be appreciate...on a limited budget here, but dont want to half-*** it too much.

I have had BOTH the Pacesetters and the Hookers. The Paceseters ARE made of a thinner material so because of that they have more of a resonance sound to them especially in the 2400 RPM range. They also (pacesetters) tend to fit too closely to the bottom of the car especially on the driver's side. I do think they are a good value for the money though. The only complaint I have about the Hookers is that their coating sucks because that nice pretty silver finish dulled pretty quickly (LOL).

I just switched from Macs to Pacestters as of this past Sat... I could tell a very noticable gain in the low end torque area... Tomarrow I'm having the car dynoed to see exactly how much I picked up from the swap.. I'll post the before & after dyno graphs when I get a chance.

Mike.

I just installed a set of MACS from the top both sides. Passenger side removed the valve cover, drivers removed the steering knuckle. Piece of cake.
I helped do a set of Hookers a few months back and the LT's are more difficult to install.

I had Macs (sold them on camaroz28.com), now I have Pacesetters. Both headers were easy to install in my book. Pacesetters to me were of average quality. The only problem I had was they sent me the wrong ones for my 99, even after I made sure to let them know. I called and got a representative who said he'd help me out if I faxed him my receipt. I faxed it in, and tried getting in contact with him like 4 times. Each time I talked to another employee who said he'd leave a msg for him (John) to call me back. He never did, and was never available. No Luck. I eventually just blocked them off and went on my merry way. I would say the Pacesetters are WELL worth the $330 I paid for them though. And there is a definate difference in the feel of the car and power.

Peace,

Heres what im not understanding. The LT can flow better correct? Then with a good heads/cam setup how can they NOT make more power? I know for a fact my pacesetters make more power then my macs did.

MM98 - did you dyno yet?

Yes I did... With the Macs the car made 353rwhp & 364rwtq, then dynoed 359rwhp & 360rwtq with the Pacesetters... The car was running really lean due to a messed up maf & pulling 4-5 deg's of kr... I put a new maf in but haven't had time to redyno it yet... Hopefully the new #'s will look better when I get the chance to dyno it. But like you, I can also tell a big difference in power.
