The truck ignition coil upgrade
#63
I have an LS6 that I bought for a swap, and now that I finally got to inspect the engine, although most of it is in good condition, a fire damaged the coils to the point that I dont wanna risk it and want to replace all of them. I see that a lot of ppl replace them w truck coils. Is it also recommended in my situation? Would i still get to use my new set of granatelli spark wires and tr55ix plugs?
Would I reuse the bracket or use a truck bracket?
If I bought an used set with the sensors, would they be plug and play with my LS6 wire harness?
Thanks!

You should get a tune to take advantage of the truck coil's abilities.

Google Holley 241-91 you should find them pretty easy.

Got it. Being new to the LS series motor I was curious if they had a similar bolt pattern to the LS2 style coils. After seeing the coils I see thats not the case. Thanks anyways!

Check this s%$# out! I found these billet brackets on a popular online auction site. They group the truck coils a little closer and lower them down a bit on the valve cover. I had to use an MSD truck wire on the number 8 cylinder, but otherwise they fit without contacting the hvac box, the wiring harness on the passenger side or the fuel rail on the driver's side! I know, it's just a stock ls1 fuel rail... but I hate modifying my stock parts when there's a chance I could sell them down the road. And this looks better

I sent you a PM. Turns out the guy I bought them from on eBay is an LS1Techer and he fabbed these brackets to clean up his engine bay on a Fox swap... this was the first set he's sold and I believe he intends to sell more now. Funny fact, he had no idea he was solving a problem!
Yes, the coils share a screw on the inner three points.
Also, he pointed out that the brackets ARE removable with the coils on, you just use a ball tip Allen wrench. I didn't think of that, cool!

Nice as they are, I'm not sure if they're for everybody. Anyone using it would need a custom wire set as the coils for cylinders 2 & 7 are further from the plugs than the others.
I'd say these brackets are not for me.
If the maker made this nice bracket with the same coil placement & spacing as stock (but still further towards the plug side getting away from the fuel rail) then I'd be interested.
