Default Newly designed PCV is hollow?

I just bought the newly designed PCV valve from ws6store.com

http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...oducts_id=1669

It's a GM part...but instead of a traditional design it's completely hollow and has a small 1/16 hole at one side...limiting vacuum basically. At least I'll never have to buy another one!

Is anybody running this kind with their catch can setup? Results before after?

its not hollow, its a fixed orifice tube. same style used in AC systems.

Post a picture please! Can anyone also post the text of the related GM Service Bulletin?! Also, does this limited vacuum have any unintended consequences?

Their description says "As many of you know, the PCV system on the 98-02 LS1's isnt exactly the greatest system on the planet.....burning up to 1 quart every 3K miles. After many complaints, GM finally issed a service bulletin to address this issue on all of the GEN 3 engines. They have replaced the ball-type PCV valve with a new fixed orifice design that is used in the GM trucks. This design will help reduce oil-consumption on your LS1.

New GM part."

^ Thanks, now we need the previous stocker pic for comparison.

Also, what is the rule of thumb on when to replace the PCV? -- Owners Manual doesn't say squat...

Is this a better approach than just replacing with the updated version?:

You should know what a STD PCV looks like. They havent changed since introduction after draft tubes were phased out

Rule of thumb, shake the old PCV. If it rattles, its still good. If it's quiet, then its filled with gunk and needs to be replaced. Obviously a FOT like the one pictured doesnt follow that rule

Seems like with the pinhole it would get clogged up easier.

Been running one of these for two years.... I barely use half a quart during an oil change. Thats with about 3 different track times on that oil and about 12 passes.

When you replace the PCV Valve, you aren't supposed to be able to blow through it. Suck, yes... It's a tune up item.. Maybe 10k miles or as needed. And I would say it's the cheaper quick fix option vs going with the LS6 style PCV system.

I'll grab a pic. I'm tinkering around with it and found a bit of oil in my intake which is odd for my car. Do we have a p/n??? Bulletin number? What year pick up are they modeled after? I'll pick one up today.

-=EDIT=-
Stocker from 2000. Not exactly the "Ball-type" but it is working as a check valve. Just too much flow which will cause oil consumption.

^ Lol, true..

Not sure how this will work.. I think the check valve may prevent any backfire/cough from following the fumes back to the crank.. but then again, I doubt there is enough oxygen in the crank case to support a burn anyway..

^ I've been wanting one. I don't have the money to spend on the car right now, so an $8 part is the next best thing.

you could probably just buy that valve at a parts for for under 3 bucks. $7.49 plus shipping for a pcv valve seems a bit crazy to me.

Yea, it's a little more involved than just swapping a part, as LS1HowTo shows...

Anyone here done it, and how much better is that than this new PCV part? I just picked one up today at the local Chevy Parts window, and they almost matched the price here:

So did you do a variation from the LS1HowTo write-up? If so, care to share details?
