Default PPC vs QTP headers

I have looked at both and like the look of them both. I have heard great things about the QTPs but I haven't seen anything on PPCs. What do you suggest?

Qtp is a stainless steel header much better than the ppc which is ceramic coated mild steel. Qtp will last forever ppc wont.

PPC has a 3 year warrenty on the headers and a Lifetime warrenty on the coatings against Rust.

Each have their benefits...probably similar power output. The stainless will bronze, but will be more durable in the long term. The weld quality is second to none. The coated PPC's have a cleaner appearance, but eventuallu will chip/flake/rust. It may take 2 years and may take 10 years. If it happens during warranty, labor and downtime is gonna hurt.

Do not let heat control concern you as both deal with the heat very well. Durability goes to QTP, shine value goes to PPC. Performance is great on each.

Ideally the best bet is to have stainless ones coated...

Which is great until you have to uninstall the headers to send them back for repair. That's not a knock on PPC, just an admittedly generalized difference between mild steel and stainless. Coating jobs will vary by brand.

The coating on my PPCs is beautiful, impecable. And I cannot say enough about the customer service Gordon has givien me! If you have ANY problems, he is right there working with you until it's resovled. And trust me, when installing headers you are very likely to run into something.

I love my QTP's. Easy install, quality construction, and tuck up tight to avoide ground clearance problems. I prefer stainless steel to cerarmic because it lasts longer and I can weld it if I need to. Repairs could be necessary with any headers if you ever hit a speed bump a little too fast.

What size primary tubes, 1 3/4" or 1 7/8"? What is difference does it make?

Red.... regardless of whether you choose ceramic coated or stainless, the primary tubing size will determine where the headers make the most power.

For a stock short block, I'd recommend you stay with the 1-3/4" size, even if you are running heads, cam and manifold. Unless, that is, you are only concerned with ultimate RPM power production at the track and not daily driving mid-RPM torque.

The smaller primaries (and 1-3/4" is not really .."small") will keep the exhaust gas velocity up at the lower and mid RPM and produce more mid-RPM torque.

The bigger tubes would not typically be of benefit unless you have a lot of cubes, high RPM and/or supercharging to make the torque up in the mid RPM.

Cheers.....

A coated mild-steel header, regardless of who coats it -WILL- rust over time. If you get a good quality stainless header you'll never have to worry about them rusting.

If you can live with the rust get the coated mild steel headers.
