Default Mufflex 4" catback y-pipe fitting question...

http://www.mufflex-performance.com/m...tegory_Code=FZ

Is it just me, or is that a 3" or 3.5" pipe where the midpipe should plug into the Y pipe? What would you do if you purchased the 4" Y pipe from their site? Just cut it off and weld in a bit of 4" pipe?

I'm confused and Mufflex hasn't responded to my email yet.

yes, i just bought the 4" cat back with dual tail pipes and i know you have to cut the end off to mate it up right. i'm doing mine with a 3"/4" flowmaster merge.

That's pretty stupid...

I'll ask them if they'll just send it with a 4" midpipe. If I'm spending $600 on a catback they can at least do it right.

it's so it can mate up with the stock y-pipe. a saws all and a band clamp will fix it...

I know. I'm probably just being picky, but I don't like fixing things from the factory.

mufflex makes exhaust for serious set ups, usually when ppl order them they have no problem fabbing things up to make it work. that's usually how it goes when u get really into this game...and usually the best mods are not the striaght bolt up and go mods. trust me its worth the money and its worth the extra little bit of hassle.

also are you going with a flowmaster merge(or similar)? if not, you need to.

Basically only it was the single out with a 4" magnaflow muffler. LOVED it. then got stupid and jumped on the TD bandwagon and went that route till I enventually sold the car.

Its all in here. I even did the 3.5" on my z28, but it was a clearance nightmare.

yeah there is a vid in that thread i believe. I am at work and cant verify if its the true dual video or not on one of them. I know that the 244/248 cam video is on the true duals though.

That magnaflow was SUPER smooth. Pretty tame when i had a 236/238 cam. It was REALLY deep sounding though. Which was an awesome bi-product.

Yes, I was going to go with TSP 1 7/8" LT's to the Flowmaster 3" to 4" Y and a Mufflex 4" catback.

I figured it would be as close as I could get to td's without it droning too bad in the cabin

I just got a response from Mufflex.

"We custom tailor each kit for the application .If you have our LS1Y-3 or any other Y with a 4'' outlet let us know when ordering and we can put the correct inlet on the kit."

I think I like these guys

no, the both vids were of the duals. im just curious about the noise VS running a cutout and a stock cat back.

would a setup like this **** off the neighbors ALOR, or just a little?

I spoke to them at length about this issue..their take is that they don't known what you have so they build it the way they build it No **** thats pretty much a quote. Its a 4" pipe with no way to slip it over or in another 4" pipe you have to make an adapter or coupler yourself.

I told them to add 4 inches and swedge it out and cut some some relief slots.. they don't care to do that.. the only reason I use it is its the only 4" catback. Other than that I think the company sucks for not making a product you can directly bolt on. I might have one made myself by a local shop that has a mandrel bender and then market it.. wont be any worse than what out there right now

I was going to have it all shipped to a local shop and have them install the TSP headers / FM 3/4" Y-pipe and catback and weld it all up. I just didn't want anything to happen that would make them charge me more money.
