Default Why 8 inches???

My local mechanic (ase/master tech) shwoed me my cats are bad ok...well he says i cant have any cats over an overall length of 8 inches. And i cant find a universal to fit. And well i didnt wanna spend a ton of money since i was considering getting LT headers and stuff within a year. And well if i spend freakin 400-600 dollars for direct fits id rather get headers and a set of y pipe catted for around the same price. So does this whole cat thing sound right? And i was also wondering if LT's will scrape real bad? Stock car height (no plans to lower) is my DD. Dont wanna bust up mah headers. So whats your guys opinions? I prefer lts over other lengths but if i have to i have to. So please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for your input.

If you are staying stock height which after getting the mod bug you will lower it imo .... You will have no problems with LT's and ground clearance, buy any LT other than SLP since they have the worst ground clearance. As for the cats I would just try to get a used stock y pipe from someone on here and rock that out until you go with LT's and ory.... if thats what you chose to do.

Hope that helps.

btw why 8 inches? because thats what she said

You need to find a better mechanic, ...
There's a GM service letter out there that says they'll replace them for free.
Search it out, ...

you need a new mechanic....Federal regulations stipulated 8yr/80K mile warranty for cat converters..GM extended this warranty in 2006 for 00-02 F-cars to 10/120k miles
