weld in muffler

weld in muffler I have a welded Flowmaster and want something different. I was thinking about just getting a 3 inch center inlet/outlet muffler, welding it in place of the Flowmaster, and having the exhaust out of the driver's side or a turn down before the rear bumper. Has anyone done this, is a good idea, or should i just spend the money on a catback?
same setup i have on mycar. i have long tubes, 3''high flow cats, 3'' y pipe, then a 3'' catback to a dynomax 3'' center inlet/outlet race muffler. then dumped right by the left of the bumper.
