Default Relay needed for msd box?

Hi I have a carb'd Ls1 that runs off an msd 6010 box. It runs great when the radiator fans are off, but when the fans are running at wot is hesitates and misfires. Would a 12v 30amp relay solve my problem? Thanks in advance for the help

Have you checked to see what the volts are at the box?

I've also got a 6010 and don't have any issues when I have both fans on

^^ I would check voltage at the box when the fans are on high. That should let you know if you have a huge voltage drop when the fans are on. Maybe you are overloading your alternator and causing a voltage drop through the whole electrical system.

Would a relay remedy this problem?

no, a relay wouldnt help. what alternator are you running? i'd check to see if the alternator is charging the batt, and check voltarge drop from B+ to alternator+, should be no more than .5 volts, but even thats kinda high.

Isn't a relays job to supply consistent voltage to what it's powering? I'm running a stock alternator from a 98' TransAm/Camaro, but the swap is in a Miata. When the car is running, the battery sees around 14.4 volts so I know I have the alt wiring hooked up properly. However, I haven't checked how it looks with the fans running. Thanks for the help guys

Ahhh, no. A relay is used to supply high current (amps) through properly sized wiring using a light gauge signal wire, so that said current doesn't have to travel through that light gauge signal wire. In a world without relays, all of our body wiring would need to be 6, 8, or 10 gauge...
