Default Fast intake and a BBK TB

One of the shops that has these intakes has to have one of the 80mm BBK TB's laying around. Don't know if you would see much over a ported stocker, but it is at lease a couple mm's bigger.

When doing the stock style intake vrs LSX, will someone try a Stock ported TB and BBK TB as well. Its 5 minutes of extra work if you have one laying around.

I have a BBK at MTI. I told Jayson a few days ago that he's welcome to try it out. I would think that and a larger MAF will be worth a few more ponies on a larger CI engine.

That might help confirm the rational thinking behind the TB bottle neck.

i {we tpis} have done alot of dyno testing. the bbk 80mm lost 5 hp compared to our ported stock tb. it's a poor design, there was also a test in hot rod mag. they also lost hp with a bbk.we have a new oval billet tb 88.5 at it's widest that would be interesting to try, but it sounds like we would have to build an adaptor we have a manifold coming {fast}and will dyno a 422 with this combo. will post results.

That fits with what I've read/heard about the BBK being a POS.

Just because it lost power on an LS6 intake doesn't mean that it will on an LSX intake. It makes sense that it wouldn't work so well on the LS6 intake since the intake opening is smaller than the TB (has to step down to enter the intake manifold which causes turbulence.) It just doesn't stand to make more power because the manifold inlet is no bigger than a ported stocker. But, on the LSX intake, this wouldn't be the case. My money is on the BBK making better power with the LSX.

I dyno tested the BBK on a stock internal LS1.If I remember correctly, it made 1 rwhp and 3 rwtq.

I would like to see results of opening the LSX to 80mm.I can't see it losing any power.

I'd like to take a BBK and bore it out to 90mm.

Is there enough meat on it? If so, a used BBK might be the cheaper way to go..

PSJ, if I'm not mistaken, the blade of the BBK is only 80mm. You'd need to change that as well to make any difference, IMO. It's not like the stock LS1 TB where you have a huge lip that can be gotten rid of.

But will the 80mm (ported to 90mm) BBK fit on the 90mm LSX?

Not sure if all BBKs are like this or not, but i had to port a friends BBK cuz it had a lip just like the factory TB. If i remember right it was only 75mm in the tightest place at the lip. Yes the rest of the BBK was 80mm. Like i said im not sure if all of them are like that.

I tried a BBK way back in the day on a full bolt on car...didn't gain anything. Graphs lined right over each other. Not to say it won't work on a different manifold though.

It's nice to know my BBK is a POS, I feel so much better. I believe from what I read that the LSX has a 5 bolt pattern for the 90mm, but this might be for their own 90mm TB. I like to bore out the BBK I have since it sucks a big vacuum!

Boring out your BBK TB will do you even less good since the stock LS1/6 intake manifold opening is only 78mm.
On a LSX intake with the 90 mm opening it would be different.

I have the BBK and I just received my new LSX 78mm intake. They didn't tell me that I needed a new coolant crossover so I have to order that. Once I do, I'm going to look at the best way to mate up the BBK to the 78mm LSX. I'm hoping to get rid of that spacer that narrows down the flow. Maybe even port the opening to the LSX intake a bit to fit the BBK if needed. I've never seen or done any porting, but I do own a Dremel . It doesn't sound too tough.
