Default Large debris on the MAF screen.

I kept finding large (relatively speaking) chunks of debris and rubber on my MAF screen when I would check the air filter. I replaced my airbox, and when I pulled it off this is what I found. The rubber was from a small gasket that is on the inside of the stock airlid neck. The gasket had hardened and been coming off, bit by bit. Of course the HUGE CRACK was also letting in the pine needles and blades of grass I was finding on the MAF screen.

The airbox had 48k on it. Thanks to JRP for hooking me up on the air intake layout when I was a super newbie so I could understand it

I don't think I'll ever run without an MAF screen.

Same exact thing happened to my car. I found it when I was replacing the stock box with a lid. The car only had 1,500 miles on it at the time, with all the junk on my MAF screen it was apparent that the car came from the factory like that.

Wow, I had no idea this was a pervasive problem. That is why I posted pics, so maybe people can check theirs.

Ya, I put another stock one on it. I got it from a junkyard and it cleaned up really well, cost me $20.00. GM wanted $85.00 for a new one. I am wanting a clear aftermarket one, I am just waiting to see one for sale in the "for sale" section of this site (there have been a couple, but I have not seen them in time and they were sold). The 50% savings of buying one used is just too much for me to pass up.
