Default over heating

My engine temp has been hotter then usual for about the last week. been running about 230 or so, then back down to 210. Today it got hot enough to turn on the "check gauges" light, around 255. My fans are working. This is my DD and i drive 23 mile each way to work. What should i check first. thanks

Check your coolant level.

Your t-stat could also be sticking, mine did this a few months ago I was freaked when I looked down and saw my temp in the red. But as long as I kept my rpm up it would work. They are cheap and easy to replace just watch out for all the coolant that will come out when you take it off.
