Default LSX first impression

Got my 78mm version in today and of course the first thing I do is take it apart
The intake is very well made and feels lighter than a LS6.The front opening was 3.050" and looks like it can be ported another 4mm.So an 80mm TB should fit no problem.
I found some casting steps in the runners and smoothed them out by sanding(took about an hour)..
Something I didn't know is that the 90mm version is only the top part of the intake, which seems to me only affects the TB opening,no changes to runners?

All in all it looks good.I will be dyno testing it tomorrow at the shop, back to back to see what we get on my car

Yep, the 90mm version is only the top section. I believe FAST will sell just the sections seperately so that you can upgrade later. This will also allow buyers to have different port designs or runner lengths and be able to swap them out if they wish.

I hope that ledge wasn't for velocity.(that was my first impression)
I know the runners could use some sanding where the pieces joined together.

I guess I'll have to do my own R&D.

Thats what I was thinking too.Still rounded them off though,I know my motor needs more air,so I don't think if they were for velocity it would even matter.

Even if they are for velocity, doesn't a smooth transition keep the airflow more laminar than having a step? Having a defined step allows for some turbulance right at that point, I believe. I am not a fluids expert, but I remember some of that stuff....

flash, or other sharp disruptions would just cause turbulence, not keep the velocity up. You would need a smaller runner to increase velocity. Basically you're just port matching the different sections of the intake, which can't hurt, but would probably only give you minimum gains if the ports already match up well. But, for only an hour of your time, why not!
