Default header problems

SLP LT Headers.
The car makes this hissing sound coming from the headers. The car doesn't sound clean... it sounds like an old car. Does anybody know what is causing this and how to fix it?

you probably just need to take the bolts out and re-tighten them to the specs that came with them. i know if you dont tighten them in sequence they wont seal right against the heads.

What do you mean by this? Could you elaborate or put it a differant way? It's not quite clear to me what you're saying...

In the meantime, will having a leak do anything bad besides sound a little off? Will it hurt my engine or will it cause a power loss?

If you've got the proper tools, it will take you all of 15 minutes to tighten the bolts.

Tighten the middle ones so they are semi-snug. Work your way out to the outer bolts and tighten them so they are snug. Then go back to the first bold you started with and retighten it. Then on to the outer bolts. Repeat this process as many times as necessary to get all the bolts tightened down to where they should be.

A leak may throw off your air/fuel ratio if it's bad enough. For just driving short trips occassionally, you will be fine for a couple days if you can't get this fixed. Don't drive a lot with this problem. The sound will also be fixed once you stop the leak.

Oh, and to answer your question about the bolts loosening gradually... After the middle bolts are in snug and you tighten the outer bolts, the middle bolts will loosen slightly due to less force in the middle and more on the outter. Don't worry about it, just tighten them down properly and you will be just fine.
