Default Cutout question that everyone can answer!

Do you like how a car sounds with a cutout? Explain why. I'm thinking of getting rid of the true duals since they are such a pain in the ***, and go with a flowmaster merge + cutout + a catback.

I hate it. Sounds like a car with no exhaust - which is what it is. Just loud noise. Duals are loud too, but they have tone and sound good at idle.

Disclaimer: this doesn't apply to ungodly nasty track-only cars.

I love it. Especially if you get an electric cutout.

I went from TSP dumped duals to American racing 4" y-pipe, 4" DMH e-cutout, Magnaflow catback, and I'm much happier... Quieter than duals when closed, and nasty when open. Plus much better ground clearance. Duals with just Bullets are not reasonable for the street IMOP.

Good choice on the Flowmaster merge, and I highly recommend a DMH electric cutout.

Yes I previously had a y pipe, cutout, and flowmaster. Loved it. I was just so caught up in the "TD's flow so much better" thing that I went with them. I would just want a flowmaster or magnaflow with the straight pipes so I don't have to polish them every time I take the car out like my corsa clones.

Yeah same here, lol. I think good headers and a good y merge cut down on the rasp and the sound can be awesome with the c/o open, (but still loud of course). My car has a deep rumble to it at low rpm and a sick howl at 6800 that I can't get enough of.

I like the way mine sounds. LT's, ORY, factory 3 inch piping with a McCord PP2 electric cutout. My cutout is right before the pipe turns up to go over the axle, and I made a turndown for it. Before the turndown, there was a lot more drone inside the car and a more metallic sound. With the turndown, a lot of the sound bounces off the ground and it honestly sounds better.

The whole reason I got the cutout in the first place was that the previous owner had put a flowmaster muffler on the car. I gained right at 13hp and 15lb-ft on back to back dyno runs closed vs open. Hopfeully soon I will be going to something that flows a little better, but keep the cutout. Thinking about a Magnaflow or something along those lines.

Side note: My opinion may change when I do heads/cam...

Yea I really missed my cutout after it was gone. Getting ready to order a 3" to 3.5" flow master merge with a 3.5" dmh cutout with flowtech. Was going to go with the 4" but I really don't think I need all of that. 3.5" will tuck a little nicer anyways. Now I just gotta find a used catback.

I had a catted y with a flowmaster merge to a single electric cutout before the muffler. The cats got rid of the tinny sound and I used to run with the cutout open most of the time. My only issue is the weight of the cutout is always stretching the rubber hangers.

And the weight is pulling on my catback enough that its not quite centered under the car. I need to rig up a support for the midpipe.

I love the sound of mine.
I drive around with it open more than I do closed I think. I usually keep the car under 4k RPM's so its tolerable, but its not my daily so thats kinda the point

I love the way my sounds. See vids. Before without the cam and headers, it would rasp when you let off, now it doesnt. I have flowmaster catback when I want to be quiiet when cruising with the windows up , air on. Oh yeah, I have gotten compliments from like 5 old guys, they love the way it sounds

I prefer the sound of my slp dual dual, quiet yet has a nice tone when on it. Cutout sounds like **** and rattles the entire car. I only open it at the track as it gains me 2 mph. My cutout is a 3.5" manual cutout, I'd get in too much trouble with an electric cutout. For the $30 I paid one cannot argue the 15 hp / 15 tq gain, I'm all about hp / $$.

I got longtubes into a cutout, but I plan to drop it for some sweet thunder duals. I want something more toned.. The cutout sounds too rough, although a cammed idle is sex
